Battle Report I: Loki v. Heretic

With the spread of the Tau Empire in the Eastern Fringes of the galaxy, it was only a matter of time before they would reach the Rynnstar System. Deep within the heart of the system lies Rynn's World, the Agriworld home of the Crimson Fists. Entrusted with the defense of the great chapter home world, Captain Jurgen Reltih of the Crimson Fist Second Company fights to defend the planet from the mobile scouting forces of the Tau.

Near the city of Vargus lies the Planetary Defense Platform "Leopold", a fusion cannon capable of destroying ships in deep orbit around the planet, lies in waiting. The Tau scouting forces, using their superior technology, slipped past the defense scanners of the Crimson Fists, and were tasked with the Silencing of Leopold to create a hole in the planet's defensive grid. In order to do this they would have to secure the surrounding area to complete their mission.

Scouts of the space marine chapter reported Xenos reaching the surface, and approaching Vargus from the south. Figuring Leopold to be the true target of the Tau, Reltih mobilized as quickly as he could, risking the second company's only two Land Raiders in order to get to the cannon before the Tau in order to establish a defensive perimeter.

Now the two forces clash for supremacy of the area around the Platform. If the cannon falls, it is likely the Tau Empire will be able to slip more forces onto the planet. Will the Tau be able to achieve there mission and secure the drop zone? Or can the Crimson Fists hold the line and the defenses of the proud chapter's home world?

  1. I think underground Heretic needs something more offensive. Vespids, more Kroot, fire knives, something. Loki kinda keeps you on your toes the whole game and something to make him react would be awesome for you.

  2. Part of what hurt was the failure of the Positional Relay for the first two turns of the game. I was hoping to be able to attack more, particularly the sternguard, but I wasn't able to force them out of their transports. Had the relay worked properly, I could have brought in my fusion team turn two. The only part of my army that was able to damage Loki's land raiders, until the fusions arrived, was my trio of hammerheads. The fire knives could have sent missiles toward the tactical squads, but that would have put them in lysander's charge range, not a good prospect.

The fusion blasters are simply better at destroying land raiders than railguns, if they are in 6". The inclusion of piranhas with fusion blasters will help me bring more anti-tank to the table and be able to dismount Loki's army so the rest of the cadre can work.
