Games Day Review

Hey everyone.  As the title pretty well sums up, I managed to take a trip to Games Day this year.  First time in a long while that I was able to do so.  While I can't say the event was super fantastic in every way... it was most certainly worth the trip indeed.  Corvus and myself made a weekend out of it, and the two of us managed to ramshackle the trukk up there without making it explode... though it came pretty close there.  We got there just in time too as the lines began to pile up just after we got there.  Even managed to play a fun intro game of fantasy while we waited.  the rules were all of 3 seconds to explain and it was a very simplified set of everyone needs 4's to do anything.  I played the rats and Corvus lead the high elves.  Though he won in the end by killing my general... the rats dominated the game until his general landed 3 lucky 4's on me!  Oh well :P

We both knew exactly where we were going the minute those doors opened... the Forgeworld line.  Even though we booked it there, we still got stuck in line for about an hour.  While Corvus was there only to keep me company... I managed to get just about every last thing I wanted from the event... minus the bitz for my penal legion... though I did get an unexpected treat for that unit.  I'll do a follow up article on what I got... as my hobby table is now overflowing with goodies to build and paint.

A Weekend in the Grim Dark: Follow Up

Greetings!  Salutations!  And other forms of hellos.  I had hoped to get to this article up a little sooner, but the new week came in heavy and fast and side arched me into work.  I'm actually writing this while at the B.S.U. Indy Center... talk about hard work :D.  I managed to have a whole weekend of glorious times in the newly grimmed derpness of the firty firp millenuhnum that is 6th edition's tournament scene.  I was excited to get a chance to experience a few different crowds and see how the game has changed in regards to what people will run.

First stop was the Comic Cave in Columbus Indiana.  The local store there is a great, and is always a pleasant environment.  Players there are easy going, and rules debates usually end up in just playing it by ear.  With the new rules, there were a few new rules conundrums but nothing that a quick consultation with the rule book or a "meh, go for it!" didn't fix right up.  We didn't get around to starting until around 5:30, but as I said, it's a pretty laid back environment.

The Quest of the Heretic

Greetings Gentle-readers!

It's rather late and I apologize for not writing for a while.  Over the last week I've been moving myself into a new room so that we can bring one more person into the RoB house.  Sometime in the next two weeks Corvus Sanguine will be taking up a defensive position in the house alongside Godfrey, Ishmael and I.  I say sometime, because I will be taking a two-week hiatus while I attend two seminars in Alabama and New York, respectively.  I will attempt to write the next articles in my Knight Fighting and T'au in 6th Edition series, but they will not be published until after I return because I want to be able to double check the rules before I publish.  Ishmael, Godfrey and possibly Corvus Sanguine will be taking up the slack in my absence.  Until I see you again.

I'm Underground Heretic, and Godfrey and Ishmael don't have to live with that for a while.

Coming Back from the Brink, pt. 1: The Fire Warrior

It's time for a retrospective and an early prospective on how the Greater W...Good is faring in the new edition of forty thousand shots.  So sit down and strap in because this will be a multi-parter.

Her Name's Viera! (Round Two)

Hello everyone, and welcome to another post of wondermazingly splendiferous proportions.  So a long while back I'd written an article on the good old Devastator units from each space marine codex.  With the shifting rules of 6th, I thought it'd be interesting to do a follow up on another of the heavy support choices that really benefits from 6th's new rules.  The biggest of the Big Guns ye olde Space Marines can bring to the table.  The Vindicator!

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS STOLEN MINI?

Well it's all summed up pretty much by the title and the picture.  I found this article making a plea to the decency of the 40k community in an attempt to return this commission painted mini to its rightful owner.  If you've seen the model, the contact information is above.

If you have a 40k blog, I'd urge you to place this picture there.  With any luck, we can see the model returned.  It's a sad day when ones models are snatched away by those less honorable players.  Hopefully we can play a part in rectifying this.

Cheers!

A Second-Hand, First-Hand Impression

So I have been looking at the rule book of Heretic, watching discussion unfold on the Wartrukk, and have been reading article after article on the community websites about 6th edition.  Regardless of how people have been treating their initial responses, everyone has seemed to latch onto the idea that the game has indeed gone through a pretty major change.

People have been finding the inevitable holes in the rules which accompany just about any edition change.  No matter how you slice it, 40k has a lot of rules, and 6th did nothing but expand that rule even more so.  It's not a strange occurrence to see some issues come about from these.  Mawloc's vs. Fliers, The conundrum of missing Skyhammer Missiles, and of course the new learning of mechanics like torrent and multiple fire modes.

The Point with 40,000 Problems

by Ishamael

So, I think that what's taken the most time out of my 40k conceptual matrix is that the distinction between 1999 and 2000 is completely and utterly stupid.

Deathwing in 6th Edition

by Ishamael

In essence, this is a continuation of the previous article concerning where Deathwing currently stands in relation to other armies, as well as what to do with Allies.  To start, here is the 2000 point list that I currently use:
