RobPod 20: They're Back!

In the Grim Dark caverns of the Grim Dark worlds, in the Grim Dark Universe of 40k, they awaken. They have risen once again to lay claim to the universe, and the top-tier spot of the tournament scene! Welcome back folks to this installment of the RobPod - our review of the new Codex: Necrons! This new codex clocks in at an impressively balanced level of "really damn good, but just this side of broken (mostly)." So join Corvus and I as we bend over and take it up the... *cough* review the codex!

Warning... this is a long cast.  Long Cast is loooooooooooong. So be sure you get plenty of booze, and be ready to drink.

Cheers!

Let's Be Friends! - Necrons

Greetings, salutations, and welcome, to this week's installation of Let's Be Friends! You'll notice that the above headline seems to be a bit ahead of where we'd expect to be with the series. Worry not dear readers, for I have left the allies matrices of the Imperial Guard and Knights in the extremely capable hands of our own Godfrey. He has significantly more experience with each of those armies as a primary detachment than I do, and thus I feel confident that he will be better equipped to provide the best breakdowns possible, especially in the wake of the new Astra Militarum. That said though, I missed including this blurb as a part of my Tomb World Awakens series, and so now, almost a year after the conclusion of that series, the epilogue is stapled on.

The Tomb World Awakens: 111

Greetings dear readers, as we close our series with a retrospective and summary, looking to apply all that we've learned from our review, so that we may create a more perfect list. There is much to discuss and much more to discover. Onward we surge, our powers amassed and awakened. Let the living fear!

The Tomb World Awakens 110

Now who doesn't have character!

Indeed here we find ourselves back at the beginning, once again examining the great generals which command our largely mindless hordes. Commanders fierce and mighty, terrifying to behold. This article will focus on the characters in the codex. Slight addendum: This article was originally posted on 3/29 and was un-posted due to some unknown technical glitch. Bear with me as I have re-written it to the best of my abilities.

The Tomb World Awakens: 101

Jolly good show getting here, gents!
Ah, welcome again to this chapter, a most sinister one indeed. This time, you'll see the largest of weapons available to most any arsenal, fearsome sights to behold which will strike terror into the heart of our foes.

Our series has at long last found itself in the Heavy Support section of the codex. When the codex first came out, there were many gripes about Ward being incapable of writing reliable anti tank into any part of a codex except the heavy support slot. As we delve into our review, we'll at least touch on a few of these quibbles, given that the codex was written with a foot in both editions. So for all of you big gun fans out there, here comes the heavy support!

The Tomb World Awakens: 100

When ten thousand years old you are, dance this good, you will not.
Greetings fleshbags! The awakening is all but complete, there are but two chambers yet to arise to glorious command, and today wakes one of those, full of fine specimens indeed, wonders of Necrontyr engineering of the highest form: speed, grace, and ruthless efficiency. The fast attack is ours to command!

If any slot in this codex shines bright as the troops, it is the fast attack slot. Excellent point for point options, as well as truly fulfilling its moniker. These options are all about speed and mobility, all the while maintaining various degrees of that Necron durability. Top it off with the capacity to be scoring, and you've got a lot of big winners here.

The Tomb World Awakens: 11

Wait... This feels too fleshy...
Greetings and welcome to the latest installment of The Tomb World awakens! This week we cover one of the more odd slots in the Necron codex: the elites. The reason I regard this section as so odd, is that having come from previously playing Space Marines, I'm used to the elite slot being full of amazing and interesting (if expensive) choices which all very closely vie for those three highly contested slots. The 'Cron dex has this same issue, but in other slots. As it stands, the elites slot for our favorite terminator knockoffs are a bit... well... bad. They're interesting, and you can make them work, but as will be seen through the progression of these articles, much of what the elites slot does is either an awkward gimmick, or something that can probably be done better elsewhere.

The Tomb World Awakens: 10

Corvus back again with the long overdue second article in my dissection of the necron codex. Today we're back with the other compulsory part of every FoC, the troops! Included in this section will also be the remaining dedicated transports for the army. About this time last year, as whispers of this codex on the horizon were growing louder by the day, one clear one stuck out to me: Necrons were to once again return to having some of the best troops in the game.

The Tomb World Awakens: 01

With 6th some months upon us, I felt it time to begin dismantling my latest army project: Necrons. This will be much akin to Godfrey's systematic review of his beloved Templar codex that he did some time ago. The reason for my delay in finally tacking this project has been the need to digest 6th and let the dust settle so as to get the most effective review possible. I'll be going section by section, hoping to have a new post every week until the book is laid bare and we can all poke our heads in and examine the machine at its barest of levels.

Inside Look: Ghost/Doomsday Ark

Hello everyone.  On today's episode of Dragon Ball... or rather Inside Look, I thought I'd take a look at one of GW's newest kits, the Ghost/Doomsday Ark.  At first glance I was immediately shocked at the level of detail that has gone into the new metal men of the 41st millennium.  Much like the Mandrakes of Dark Eldar, the new Necrons utilize a fairly decent amount of engraved lines and built in details.  This is a great improvement upon the old as it just adds a level of detail that the majority of the hobbyist and players have a hard time achieving.  It seems the sculptors at GW have gone the extra distance to really make this new line shine.

Now & Later

For anyone who’s enjoyed this tasty candy comes today’s delicious article on the latest things to talk about in 40k: Necrons and 6th Edition. Now, I haven’t gotten a look at the leak myself but I’ve kept on a close eye on those rumors I see circulating, and I’ve looked the Necron codex over in great detail (mainly because it’s my first army outside of my beloved Ravens.)
