Catching Up, and Making Progress

Hey there everyone, Godfrey here with something of a personal update for you guys.  Most of the articles I write are written with the express idea of discussing something about this or that, but I thought I'd take some time to gather my progress on the many fronts I've been facing in the Grim Darkness of my Hobby time, and form them into words.  It helps me as a writer and a hobbyist to catalog my achievements and to work out meaningful steps towards future goals, and hopeful provides you guys with something to occupy your time with.  So why the picture of Liam Neeson to start off with an article like that?  Well apart from being one of my favorite actors, this picture depicts the namesake of my screen name.  It's from the film Kingdom of Heaven, and if you haven't seen it check it out.  There are numerous little nuances and elements about the character which really hit home for me, so I strive to be more like him in my everyday games... even if the Ork player in me is a bit over-zealous to speak broken English and yell a lot.  But on with the show.  Let's see what's been going on, and where it will take me.

Rites of Battle Podcast Update

Hey all, Corvus here with a quick update about our podcast stuffs. We've gotten a few emails (love you guys!) about our podcast'd content. Some of you have been wondering where our content can be found. First things first, I'm really really new to this podcast thing, so our files are hosted for free, via Archive.org. You can download our content through them by visiting their site by way of the embedded widget that the podcast plays through on our site. I chose this option because I was familiar with it, because it was free, and because it came with a little bit of copyright protection with it. If any of our listeners also cast, I'd love tips from you as to how/where you host your content, so that we might be able to better offer content to more users. Hopefully that clears some things up and answers some questions for you. Hope to see more of you tuning in to our next podcast! Oh, and here's a handy dandy link to all the stuff our account uploads. A Full Docket

Hello everyone.  There isn't much in the way of content here, but I wanted to let everyone know that with the new year has come several major events in the area.  Several tournaments and Narrative themed Apocalypse events have been scheduled.  To help you guys plan for the events, we've updated the Event Calendar here on Rites to give you the best idea of what all is going on and when.

Check out the Rites of Battle Event Calender and start painting your models.  The new year is certainly starting out with a bang!

I recently had a chance to speak to the 11th Company about a few topics on behalf of Rites of Battle, and was happy to see it was worth editing into their podcast.  I chime in briefly somewhere around the 1 hour, 3 minute mark.  It was quite fun to be included in such a well established staple of the 40k online community.

A Revitalized Look and Feel

Hey everyone.

You have probably noticed the website has been changing bit by bit over the last few weeks and months.  Unfortunately this lowly grot can only work in his free time, and so it has been an off and on process.  But the updates have been a long time coming, and we on staff hope you enjoy the newest additions to the site.  Our newest changes include adding an actual background, the Disqus comment features, tweaking the layout of the home page, and adding a Gallery Page.

There are still a few more pieces left to do before we are finished with what we hope will be the permanent look and feel.  These include getting some ad space on the site, as well as a brand new logo and banner art for the page.  I'm excited to see these when they're finished up and added.  As always, we hope this keeps your time spent on the site as smooth and immersive as possible.

New Project

Greetings Gentlereaders,

I apologize for our inactivity over the last week, but the astropathic array at our fortress-monastery has been rather inconsistent.  They kept screaming about daemons coming and what not, but Brother Lemmicus went in and beat them until they got back to work, so we're back.

Corvus, Godfrey and I have been discussing the site over the past few weeks and are considering expanding our offerings to you.  Specifically, since we have been spending most of our 40k time discussing the game rather than playing it, we are considering producing a podcast.  We're still coming up with ideas for topics and haven't decided how often we would post the episodes, or how long they would be.  I wanted to put this idea out to you all because a podcast, or blog, that doesn't please its readers isn't much of a podcast.

Would you be interested in listening to the three of us, possibly also Ishmael discuss various topics about 40k?  How much time per week would you be willing to listen a podcast?  What types of things would you like to hear about?  Would you be interested in a weekly, biweekly, or semi-weekly podcast?

Da Event Calendar

It's finally here!  A new page on Rites now includes The Event Calendar.  The calendar will include information about much of central Indiana's gamer groups, and we hope to keep it updated frequently.

Just follow the link on the page to the Calendar and start planning those weekend excursions.  We're hoping with a common calendar between groups, we can help them avoid scheduling events on the same weekends, so the players from the area can hit as many of the stores and play as many other gamers as possible.

An Updated Look and Feel

Hey everyone.

Just letting you all know the site will be undergoing some maintenance.  After a long time standing, I will be doing some much needed revisions to the behind the scenes works for Rites.  I am hoping to utilize some new features like Page Jumps (the read more features) as well as some additional pages.  We on staff appreciate your patience, and we hope to bring you the best quality we can.

100th post!

Good morning to you all and thank you for reading this. Here at Rites we've managed to hold it together for 100 posts and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for reading our drivel, or at least mine. The time we've been doing this has brought changes to all of our lives and we've all changed armies, except for dramatt but he will be playing the new Dark Eldar. I've gone away from Tau to Eldar while Ishmael has gone from Chaos to Tau to Khador in Warmachine. Loki has gone from one chapter of the sons of Dorn to another. Dramatt is going from his sparkly vampires to the sex drugs and sadism of Dark Eldar.

I know that Loki has been pulling a lot more than his share of the weight around here due to Ishmael and I having plenty of work for the university. While I apologize for not being able to post more, I've needed the time for things that are more important to me. While we've all had changes in our personal and gaming lives, our love for the game and our appreciation of you, our readers has not diminished. We hope to be able to bring you more witty and informed commentary on our favorite games in the future.

A New Look and Feel

Moving one step at a time, our site has become closer to a real web page. Here's to hoping we can gain more fans in the coming months. We will continue to bring as much 40k goodness to all of you for as long as we'z gots teef ta pay da bilz!
